I will soon meet my new class of 28 five year olds. We go to school on a very diverse campus and love to learn about all the things that make us unique as well as the many things we all have in common.
I am going into my second year of teaching and so excited to implement new activities to help my students grow.
Teaching brings me joy and I am excited to wake up and go to "work" every day! I am excited to join Donors Choose to get help in creating a classroom that my students deserve.
Most if not all of my students live in Fort Bend county and surrounding areas that were affected by Hurricane Harvey.
My Project
Coming into Kindergarten, many students are very shy about participating in class. When English is their second language (as about 50% of my class is) it is even harder to get them to engage in class discussions.
The Qball Microphone will help them become more confident speakers by providing a fun way to share their unique ideas.
Students quickly see how fun it is to be able to throw the microphone back and forth and soon want to join in the fun with the rest of their peers.
It is often hard to keep students engaged for long periods of time, especially toward the end of the day. By giving them an active way to participate in conversation, I will be able to keep more students engaged and actively listening to others. The Qball will begin to build public speaking skills at a young age. The more they are able to practice speaking in class, the more fluent and confident they will become.
