Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Lack of access to literature can have a significant impact on student's academic success and overall quality of life. However, we can make a difference by donating books to students attending TSK who are striving to improve their literacy skills from below grade level(s) to those who need them most. My students are struggling readers and writers who need support changing their perspective about reading to one that engages and motivates them to want to continue to read. Some of my students are newcomers to the U.S. so they need high-interest books for their age and level, which is not attainable in our school library. By donating books to children, we can help to promote literacy and encourage young minds to explore new ideas and perspectives. Studies have shown that having books in the home can have a significant impact on a child's academic success, with children who have access to books being more likely to succeed in school.

But it's not just about academic success, reading can also be a source of joy and inspiration for children.

By providing them with a variety of high-interest book titles during each semester as an incentive to accomplish their reading goal(s), celebrate their reclassification of ELD, and/or to read during the school break, we can help to foster a love of reading that will last a lifetime.

So why not make a difference in a child's life today by donating books to a local school or library? Your donation could be the one that sparks a love of reading in a child and sets them on the path to success.
