Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In a foreign language class there are pair or group interactions every single day. Providing the students with the Qball microphone where everyone can be heard will enrich their experience as well as empower each student to show what they are capable of. With this microphone, I want my students to be able to share their thoughts and ideas with clarity and confidence.
At the beginning of the year, we established a routine of chain conversations where students pass around a regular microphone to ask and answer questions.
This approach not only fosters communication skills but also builds confidence in speaking, particularly for those who may be shy or have softer voices. Initially, the students were very apprehensive and shy using the microphone but with time they started feeling more confident.
Currently, I use my own microphone to facilitate these discussions, ensuring that everyone can hear and participate. However, I believe that with the addition of the Qball microphone my students will be empowered to speak up, regardless of their position in the classroom or their level of language proficiency. The tactile nature of passing the microphone will add an element of fun and engagement to our discussions, helping students forget any apprehensions they may have about speaking in a second language.
