At BLSYW, 11th grade is a critical year where students sharpen their reading, writing, research, and presentation skills in preparation for college.
In my Modern World History course, we use technology to deeply engage with the world around us; students explore global cultures through data, photo essays, videos, documentaries.
However, the stark reality is that many of my students struggle with limited access to technology. They often rely on cell phones or public library resources, which are inadequate for comprehensive online research, creating presentations, or collaborating on projects. This digital divide not only hinders their development of essential 21st-century skills but also restricts their ability to connect meaningfully with global communities.
This campaign is ambitious, yet it embodies my commitment to educational equity. By equipping my classroom with Chromebooks and providing Bluetooth keyboards for those using mobile devices, I aim to ensure that every student, regardless of their circumstances, gains proficiency in navigating online tools and platforms critical for academic and career success. More importantly, these resources will allow my students to engage directly with complex global issues, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives. Through the generosity of donors, I can transform my classroom into a gateway to the world, preparing my students to be informed, skilled, and globally aware citizens.
