This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Most of the students at our school are performing below grade level in reading and have very few or no books at home. Due to the living conditions and daily struggles for basic needs, our students don't have the luxury of purchasing books from book stores. Many struggling readers are often too shame to read aloud which stunts their growth in reading.
Offering an iPad as an incentive for students to meet their reading goal helps to build a love for reading without the worry of where to find books that they want to read and helps builds fluency in private.
Having their own iPad will also provide alternative ways for students who are struggling readers to enjoy reading. An iPad offers ways for these readers to listen to books read aloud and enjoy vibrant illustrations for some books.
