My third-grade students are all exceptional in many different ways. My students are creative and full of questions! They are motivated to investigate new ideas and problem solve. Each day, they join me in learning through hands-on, student-centered learning, and challenging activities to grow as future productive global citizens. My third graders are brave and take chances every day. They are truly wonderful!
Each student brings a unique perspective of the world with them as they join me in learning and growing together.
Students in my classroom have unique everyday experiences, cultural and language backgrounds and practices, interests, and individual learning needs. I have students who begin learning English as they enter the school system, as well as, students who grew up speaking English as their first language. In addition, students in my classroom join me with diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Students in my class are motivated to do well and want to succeed. I am incredibly lucky to have this group of students who are ready to learn and grow with me each day!
My Project
Flexible seating empowers students by providing them with the opportunity to identify a place within the classroom where they learn best. Currently, students are finding areas in the classroom to work and collaborate, such as, different tables, under their desks, at the carpet with the limited flexible seating that we have. With additional flexible seating options, more students will be able to benefit daily. This type of seating creates a classroom environment where students are comfortable, calm, and focused. Students are more productive and motivated when working in an environment that allows for comfort.
When given a choice about where students sit, students are much more engaged in tasks and less disruptive to their peers.
The product that I have identified for this project will help by giving my students additional seating options that allow for comfort and enhanced learning experiences. The flex space wobble chairs can be used at desks, as well as, throughout the classroom. These chairs allow for movement while sitting. They can be incredibly beneficial for students who need to get the wiggles out without being a distraction to the rest of the class.
I have experienced how flexible seating positively affects student learning and motivation. I hope that this project can help us grow even further to reach above and beyond our goals.
