Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At our school, we work as a community to focus on all aspects of our students. We teach all subjects including putting emphasis on growth mindset and social-emotional skills.
My students are identifying their emotions and are empowering themselves by identifying them and choosing the seating that best suits their learning.
They are empowered by being active participants in their education which helps prepare them for middle school.
They are demonstrating a growth mindset every time they choose how they learn best.
My Project
I chose flexible seating options and social-emotional tools to help my students become engaged learners. Adding more seating choices to our classroom helps the students have a variety of places to work alone, in pairs or small groups. Currently, we have a beach area, high and low tables with a variety of office chairs and exercise balls.
When students are frustrated they can change their seat choice or use the social-emotional tools in the cozy corner that helps them refocus on work.
This is the first year that I have implemented a flexible seating classroom. Students are excited that they can be active learners and participants in choosing where they sit and have a place to unwind when learning gets difficult. Our classroom is a place that the students can focus on learning and friendships and look forward to the future.
