Empowering Students Thru Digital Music Storytelling
My students need wireless microphone equipment, a digital video camera, and costume materials to empower my students to share their own stories through digital storytelling.
My students love to creatively capture narratives through musical performance...and we perform all the time! From my kindergartners creating original songs to my fifth graders collaborating to create musical stories, my classroom is full of singing games and musical storytelling, all within two class periods a week. But their love of creating their own stories through music is not enough for success. They need a little extra support.
My students are the most creative, energetic little musicians.
They love coming to music and learning new things from each other. Unfortunately, most of my students do not have the same opportunities at home as other students. And while my high needs Title 1 school does the best they can to provide what is needed, music class is often overlooked. But despite all of that, my fabulous students come to music class eager to grow and learn through music.
My Project
These resources will ignite the musical storytellers that I know my students are! With access to this digital video camera and microphone equipment, my students will be able to record their musical stories, watch them back critically, and then improve with each and every recording. And the costume materials will truly ignite their creativity when they dress up for the characters in their stories. After which, they will be so excited to share their finalized musical stories with family and friends.
My students love to tell their own stories through music, and this technology will provide opportunities for them to use cutting-edge technical skills to share their experiences.
All they need is the inspiration this project will bring to them. Let's start empowering these students through the joy of digital music storytelling with this technology!
