Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Character education and social emotional learning are more important than ever in our elementary schools. As a School Social Worker, this is why I teach every class in my school about a different "Wellness Word" each month. Wellness Words include character traits like kindness, acceptance, compassion, growth mindset, honesty, patience, and more!
These social emotional skills are used every day, in every aspect of life.
When children understand and apply these character traits, they are able to do things like maintain healthy friendships, solve problems independently, and make responsible decisions. These skills not only translate to social success, but also academic success!
Books and teacher made resources are some of my favorite tools to use when teaching about my monthly Wellness Word. Students are able to relate to book characters and gain an understanding of what different character traits look like and how to apply them. Teacher made resources are a great way to get students engaged in fun activities and projects. These tools will help me deliver this much needed content in a way that students will enjoy!
