I teach math and science core, incorporating hands-on, project-based learning in my classroom. I also teach a speech and technology elective, helping students develop 21st-century presentation skills. My robotics class incorporates STEM and STEAM skills for engineering.
We incorporated technology into all subjects of my classroom and my goal is to promote as much innovative learning as possible.
Every year of my teaching I have volunteered my time tutoring my students after school, since so many struggle with the rigorous challenges of complex learning concepts. Last year, I created online tutorials for both students and parents. I need additional materials to create an even greater impact on classroom learning and interventions. I want to learn how to incorporate robotics into my elective, encouraging student engagement, and achievement. Students are learning to code, but I want them to learn about the engineering as well. We are studying energy, but I will have them further research sustainable forms of energy.
My Project
My students need robotics kits and technology tools to enhance my teaching and to learn in a hands-on way. These materials will help me promote learning engagement in the classroom and beyond, creating interactive works of art with design skills. The robotics kits and Lego additions will be used to incorporate technology integration, computer concepts, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) activities. The students will gain much-needed support from the learning materials and the innovative lessons will help them develop 21st-century learning skills. They will be applying science and research to understand and build solar power, computer code to program, and engineering skills to build the Cubelets. They will apply programming and research with the surface pro. Additionally, I want them to learn about sustainable energy and how we can build robots with solar energy. We will be researching how to convert existing energy into solar.
How amazing would it be to make a movable work of art?
These kits will help me bring science and robotics to life in my classroom and make a difference in students' learning and technology integration. They will understand the art in robotics and investigate solar power to make a difference in environmental issues. Solar energy is a key form of technology that can truly improve our quality of life, while enhancing innovation. Art is everywhere in innovation and is a key component of creativity.
