This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Dr. Seuss words: "You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself any direction you choose!" inspired me to empower my students through art and literacy..
My preschoolers are a wonderful group of 25 children, they are three and four-years-old and eager to learn.
They have limited educational resources at home because they come from low-income households but they are very enthusiastic learners and happy children! My goal is to provide them with a positive environment at school where they can develop their natural curiosity and desire to learn about the world. They love to paint and draw but they also like to listen to books during story time. Sometimes we have to read the same book twice because they loved it so much! They are fans of Dr. Seuss books because the illustrations are vivid and the words are phonetically age appropriate.
My Project
My approach for Empowering Students Thought Art links art and literacy. I'm requesting easel paper, brushes, a water color set, and a variety of Dr. Seuss books, such as :Oh, The Places You'll Go!, Oh, The Things You Can Think!, The Cat In The Hat, The ABC, etc. for my preschool students to use during our small group activities. After reading a book my students have free choice to paint, draw, or dictate what they remember about the story.
When children are involved in hands-on activities such as painting and drawing they are more likely to understand and remember concepts easily.
I want my preschoolers to be able to develop their creativity and their literacy skills as well.
By having access to their favorite books we will instill in them a love for learning, a passion for reading, and many other skills that will ultimately lead to the empowerment needed for success. Please donate and impact our students' lives!
