Mrs. Richardson from Richmond VA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 23 Kindle Fire tablets and cases to empower students by integrating art with mathematics.

My students are always highly engaged when we use technology. They are also very creative young people that love art and music. I would like to combine their love of art, music, and technology to enhance their understanding of math concepts. Lets Empower Students Through Art!
I teach at a model school that incorporates performing arts, visual arts, coding, computer science, and STEM (STEAM) within the curriculum.
Our urban school receives federal funding for programs that provide free breakfast and lunch for every student, and title 1 services to economically disadvantaged boys and girls. We are a class which includes military families, gifted students, ESL students, and the tech savvy. My students are energetic and very busy within the classroom. Even with parental support, I would love to say that my students have everything that they need to be successful. But they don't. We are preparing students for college, the workforce, and the world beyond, so they can have a better life.
I love teaching geometry because it allows my students to learn concepts while being as creative as possible. I wanted a new way for my students to share their growing math knowledge. They love technology and all forms of art, so why not empower my students by using Kindle Fires. They will use the Kindles to research and view different paintings and drawings by downloading apps and taking virtual field trips. They will also be able to create designs and art showing symmetry and patterns using attribute blocks and tessellations with a variety of art websites and apps. Make algebra concepts fun by adding music and art to re-enforce patterns will make learning come alive. We can even tackle fractions and problem-solving while creating with the Art apps. All of my students will have the chance create and make arts that will teach math concepts to all who enter of class. The Kindles will bring the arts into our class using technology in a way that was not possible in the past.
Knowledge empowers students to greatness.
We can now empower more students through art. Every child has something that they are passionate about whether it is drawing, creating music, or dance. We as educators need to make those connections for our students. We need to create lessons that will teach math, science, and reading in a way that integrates a students' love of the Arts.
