This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It is important for students to connect mathematics to other subjects such as art and technology. In this "Empowering Students Through Art" project, my students will apply their mathematics skills to create an art piece using technology.
Some of my students are English Learners.
They come from very low socioeconomic families. Yet, they eager to learn. Some of them live in a shelter homes. Our school has no budget to enhance our students' education. We have many students at risk for failure because of poverty, and don't have access to supplies to help them to succeed. Despite the fact that some of them come from low socioeconomic families, all of my students work hard to succeed academically.
My Project
In this project, my students will create art using mathematics. My students are learning linear equations in their mathematics class. Students will be using these various equations to create a piece of art using technology.
Students will be using the touch screen Microsoft tablet and the keyboard case to check which equations they will need to use for their art piece. Students will use various apps on the tablet, such as "FluidMath" to find equations needed for their final piece of art. Once they are ready with their equations, they will use various linear equations to create an individual piece of art.
They will also use the tablet to take a photo of their final design to share with each other through Google Docs and Dropbox where they will all see their math-art designs and compare each project as a result of their collaboration. This is a project that should be truly called as an "Empowering Students Through Art".
If this project is funded, my students will be extremely thankful and grateful, as they are in great need to have these important technology tools in our classroom.
In addition, this project will send them a important message about integrating art and math. Additionally, my project that includes the Microsoft Tablet is crucial for my students' improvement of their conceptual understanding and enhances of classroom dynamics.
