Help me give my students "TI-Nspire calculators and protective caps to ensure sufficient availability for all students, particularly during state testing, as they offer enhanced capabilities compared to the current TI-84 models.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Providing TI-Nspire calculators and additional protective caps will ensure that all students — 7th-grade honors, 8th graders, and Algebra 1 students — have access to advanced technology for learning and state testing. Currently, one group does not have the advantage of using a more capable calculator, requiring me to teach with two different models throughout the day. We currently have 20 caps and need 10 more for larger classes, as I am temporarily borrowing them from another campus.
The TI-Nspire offers significantly more functions and capabilities than the TI-84, better preparing students for high school, where this calculator is commonly used, and for standardized exams such as the SAT and ACT.
This transition will provide continuity in their mathematical education and reduce learning gaps.
Additionally, the TI-Nspire’s connectivity features will enhance instruction by allowing me to send warm-up exercises directly to students’ calculators, assess their responses instantly, and provide immediate feedback or redirection. At the end of class, I can distribute and collect exit tickets digitally, helping me gauge student understanding in both multiple-choice and free-response formats. This real-time interaction will improve engagement, assessment efficiency, and overall learning outcomes.
