Students could hardly wait to unbox the new materials at the start of the year, and they were thrilled to dive into hands-on learning with tools that make science feel real and accessible.\r\n\r\nRight now, all of my classes are studying force and motion using these new resources. My 8th graders recently completed a balloon rocket investigation, racing balloons along strings and measuring the distance they traveled. They used tape measures to calculate velocity and acceleration, and they are now busy analyzing their results to write a formal lab report connecting their observations to Newton's Laws of Motion. My 7th grade students have been just as engaged. One class engineered paper rockets and launched them with straws, then measured distance and time to calculate speed. They will soon create distance-time graphs to show their data.\r\nThe project that brings me the most joy at the moment is my 7th grade honors class. I challenged them to design their own demonstration of Newton's first law of motion using our maker space. One group is building a miniature bowling lane. Another designed a marble drop that highlights gravity and normal force. A third team is attempting a perpetual motion machine. Their creativity, problem solving, and teamwork have been incredible to watch. They will present their demonstrations and explain the science behind them next week.\r\nThank you again for making this level of engagement possible. When my students put away the screens and start building, their curiosity and confidence take off. Your donation has already made a meaningful impact on their learning and excitement for science. We are truly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1746747441146,"projectUrl":"project/lobo-maker-space/9221174/","projectTitle":"Lobo Maker Space","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rose Valdez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8974888_orig.png?crop=654,654,x0,y2&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743541864964","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8974888"},{"teacherId":9933809,"projectId":9137252,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support in providing my students with access to the TI-Nspire calculators. Your donations have truly transformed the way we learn and engage with math in the classroom.\r\n\r\nWith these calculators, students can now explore problems from multiple angles - graphically, algebraically, and using data tables - which has deepened their understanding and built their confidence. The calculators allow them to check the validity of their solutions. This kind of flexibility in problem-solving has been a game-changer for many of my learners, especially the students who have trouble with math computations.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting features for the students has been the interactive capabilities. With the TI-Navigator system and caps, I can now send out warm-up questions directly to their calculators. These questions range from multiple choice to open-ended responses or even graphing tasks. Students love that one of their peers can take control of the class screen through their calculator and explain their thinking, which gives them ownership while also allowing me to assess their understanding in a more meaningful way.\r\n\r\nAnother huge benefit is the real-time feedback I receive from student responses. I can quickly identify misconceptions and address them immediately as a class or individually. Even better, the system displays the answers anonymously, so students feel safe to take risks and not feel embarrassed when they get it wrong. This has encouraged participation and helped build a supportive classroom culture where all voices are valued.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, we're not just learning math, we are experiencing it, exploring it and gaining the confidence wo master it.","fullyFundedDate":1746783058181,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-students-through-access-to-ca/9137252/","projectTitle":"Empowering Students through Access to Calculators","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Medina-Olivo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9933809"},{"teacherId":9276625,"projectId":9047728,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom! The new resources you provided have truly transformed the way our Pre-K class explores science together. One of the most memorable experiences was using the egg incubator to hatch Silkie chicks as part of our unit on the chick life cycle. Watching the students' faces light up as they observed the chicks hatch was a moment of pure wonder and learning come to life. We've also used the ant farm and other hands-on materials to study insect and plant life cycles, this helped students apply their knowledge in a fun and interactive way.\r\n\r\nThe only way to describe my students' reaction to these materials is amazement. Their excitement was truly contagious. They truly felt like real scientists, observing, questioning, and discussing what they saw each day. I know that this experience made a lasting impact on my students.\r\n\r\nIn the future, I plan to continue nurturing this passion for science by incorporating more hands-on investigations and experiments using the tools you helped provide. The resources have made possible for my students to explore and learn in a new engaging way.
