Empowering Student Voices

My Project

In our "Transition to Middle School" course, we're embarking on a transformative project that will make a significant difference in student learning. By interviewing and creating biography posters of our diverse staff members, students will develop crucial communication, research, and design skills. This project will deepen their understanding of the school community and enhance their sense of belonging, directly impacting their academic and social-emotional growth during this critical transition period.

The goals of this project are to foster meaningful connections between students and staff, creating a more supportive and inclusive school environment, to develop students' interpersonal, writing, and technological skills through real-world application, and to promote the values of Nā Hopena Aʻo, particularly in terms of belonging (sense of place) and responsibility (kuleana) within our school community.

What makes our students special is their unique position at the heart of Maui's diverse community. Our students come from varied backgrounds, bringing with them a rich tapestry of cultures and experiences. They possess a strong sense of aloha and a deep connection to their island home, which makes them particularly receptive to projects that strengthen community bonds. Their enthusiasm for hands-on, culturally relevant learning experiences sets them apart and makes them ideal candidates for this type of project-based education.

By funding a poster printer for this initiative, you'll be providing these special students with the tools they need to showcase their abilities, honor their school community, and smoothly transition into middle school life. Your support will enable them to create lasting, visible reminders of the connections they've forged and the skills they've developed, setting the stage for their continued growth and success.
