Help me give my students a chromebook to help raise school and neighborhood awareness through community service!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My high school students are students with differing forms of learning and emotional disabilities as well as autism spectrum disorders who have a heart for servitude. Every single day, my students are looking to please people in the their school community, as well as every single person they talk to. The chromebook that is being requested will help further encourage and substantiate my students' voices throughout our school environment and neighborhood by allowing them to create digital awareness posters!
These items will make a difference in our learning space and community by allowing my students to create posters to share throughout the building that represent the diverse languages present in our school community.
Every day, each student in the building has to go to the bathroom, but when they are new to our school, they may not know where it is. They may also come to school as an English Language Learner, and need signs throughout the building to assist. Bathroom, is Bano, which is twalet. Cafeteria is kafeterya, which is also kafeteriy and also karinderya. As a diverse school in NYC, we need signs that will help every learner move through their school environment.
We will make signs as part of our classroom functioning and will then hang them up across the school in all the locations where they are needed. On top of providing posters to translate to all of our students, we will also be working hand in hand with our hydroponics lab, to use the printer to produce signs for our outside garden.
By building student voice, in their language throughout our building, this community project will help our school community. While helping our school community, the signs printed in our school garden will inform members of our community what is being planted in our garden.
