Empowering Special Education and History Students Through Hands-On Learning

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach in a school located in a severely disadvantaged city, where many of my students face economic hardships that limit their access to essential learning materials. As a special education teacher working in an inclusion setting, I strive to create an engaging and supportive environment where students of all abilities can thrive.

Despite economic and cultural challenges, my students are eager to learn, create, and develop new skills.

Whether in history class, working on IEP goals, or participating in our new crochet club, they consistently rise to the occasion when given the right tools. Providing them with these supplies will help bridge the gap and give them the educational experiences they deserve.

The items I am requesting will help my students in multiple ways:

A printer previously funded through DonorsChoose has been a game changer in my classroom. Now, I need ink to continue printing essential materials for my students, as well as IEP modifications and accommodations to support my special education students effectively.

Easel Pads & Tri-Fold Boards will be used for classroom projects and gallery walks where students present and teach each other.

Many students struggle to charge their devices due to limited access to outlets. These power strips will improve accessibility.

Many students can’t afford basic supplies. Providing them with lined paper and pencils ensures all students can fully participate.

Our new crochet club has brought together both general education and special education students, helping them build motor skills, patience, and a sense of accomplishment. This club fosters creativity and mindfulness, but we need materials to keep it going.

Students will create historical artifacts like cuneiform tablets and Greek sculptures using the modeling clay, making history come alive.
