Empowering Scholars in Hawaii Through Coding!

My Students

My scholars are a lively group of Kindergarten - 5th graders that live in a rural community in Hawaii. They love to learn new things and collaborate together on projects to share with their school community and families.

My scholars are an enthusiastic group that enjoy learning with technology and utilizing it to expand their knowledge.

As their teacher, I hope to provide opportunities for learning where they will nurture their basic reading/math skills, encourage critical thinking, collaboration with others and empower them with the skills necessary to be successful 21st-century learners.

My Project

This project will provide our K- 5th grade after school enrichment class with the materials necessary to expand our coding knowledge and take our practice to the next level. At the beginning of this year, our class has done an amazing job learning about coding language and concepts through the use of the online coding program Scratch.

With the Dash Robot, students will be able to see the fruits of their hard work come to life as the Dash Robot follows the code they write themselves.

Students will take their prior knowledge of coding and apply it to a new program, Blockly, then create a program for the Dash Robot to complete for their class and peers.

Learning Coding in elementary school strengthens our scholars' critical thinking/problem-solving skills, will help them visualize abstract math concepts, expand their creativity and promote learning in all subject areas.
