My Students

My sixth graders come into my classroom eager to !earn each and every day. They are ready to read, write, and discuss on a daily basis. Discussions in our classroom focus on many topics but most especially on happenings surrounding adolescents and the world they live in. Submerging students of this age in reading that not only interests them but sparks discussion is valuable in keeping student's interests peaked in reading.

The world surrounding middle school students can be a puzzle for them as they face challenges in the world around them.

It is vital that we teach students empathy, responsibility, and how to deal with other emotions that they are facing. My students are interested in learning about the world around them and eagerly await new materials to help them do so.

My Project

By introducing the book "Wonder" to students, it will greatly enrich their responses to others around them. In a literature-rich classroom, it is beneficial for students to be exposed to newer reads with current themes. We live in a society where being different doesn't always result in kindness. By reading "Wonder", my students will not only be exposed to modern literature, but will learn how to show empathy in a world full of chaos that surrounds them.

By donating to our project, you will be an important part in teaching children about others around them and their differences.

My goal is to create discussions surrounding touchy subjects with middle school students. This will teach them how to deal with differences and show compassion to many others around them. Themes of compassion, anti-bullying, acceptance, and showing empathy to others will be the focus of our discussion throughout this novel.
