This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our Unified Cheer athletes are an incredible group of students who bring school spirit and unity to our high school. However, many of our athletes face intellectual disabilities (ID) and come from low-income households, making it difficult for them to afford essential athletic gear. We are seeking support to provide duffle bags for our athletes, ensuring they have a personal and organized space to store their belongings while participating in cheer activities.

Our Unified Cheer team includes students ages 14-22, both with and without disabilities, who work together to build camaraderie and inclusivity.

Many ID students have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to their specific needs. They face challenges with cognition, communication, social interaction, and motor skills. Having a designated bag will help them stay organized, ease transitions, and promote independence.

Having a designated bag will help in several ways:

Promote independence by giving them ownership of their personal items.

Encourage organization skills to help them keep track of their belongings.

Boost self-esteem by fostering a sense of responsibility and confidence.

Improve transitions for students who struggle with changes in routine, offering a source of comfort.
