it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Here at our academy in Southeast Baltimore, over 50% of our students are enrolled in English Language Development (ELD) services across PreK to 8th grade. These incredible learners bring a wealth of languages, cultures, and perspectives to our classrooms. They are creative, resilient, and deeply connected to their families and communities.
In the current climate of uncertainty and fear impacting many immigrant families, it's more important than ever that our multilingual students feel welcomed, valued, and safe at school.
This project aims to send a powerful, visible message: You belong here and you are powerful.
We are requesting support to provide custom T-shirts for our multilingual learners that celebrate their identities and affirm the strength of being multilingual. These shirts will promote a message of inclusion and unity across our school, helping students feel proud of who they are and what they bring to our community. The front says "I am Multilingual" and the back says "What's your superpower?" in English, Spanish, and Arabic— the languages spoken by our diverse student body.
Students will wear their shirts during school-wide events and especially during the MCAP WIDA ACCESS assessment—a rigorous, state-mandated test that measures English language proficiency growth. Wearing their shirts during this time will help boost confidence and remind students that their voices matter and that they have a team of supporters behind them.
These T-shirts are more than just clothing—they are symbols of pride, encouragement, and belonging. They will help empower our multilingual learners and foster a more supportive, united school environment.
