This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a dedicated educator who is deeply committed to creating a positive and conducive learning environment for my students. I teach a group of students who face numerous challenges, including economic hardship and lower social-emotional learning (SEL) scores compared to state and national averages.

One of the significant challenges my students encounter is hunger, which directly impacts their ability to focus and learn.

Many of them come to school without having had a nutritious meal, hindering their academic progress. To address this, I am seeking to provide snacks for my students. These snacks not only serve as a source of sustenance but also play a crucial role in building relationships. I have observed that offering snacks creates a more relaxed atmosphere, making it easier for me to connect with students who have previously struggled to form relationships with teachers. These connections, in turn, motivate them to be successful in the classroom.

Additionally, I am in need of alternative seating options to enhance the learning experience for both my students and myself. Currently, I have a couch that accommodates only two students, and it has become a preferred spot for focused work. I am requesting standing desk options for students, particularly for those with conditions like ADHD who may benefit from working while standing. Moreover, my classroom serves as the venue for professional development, where teachers spend extended periods. Different seating options would offer flexibility and comfort during these sessions.
