Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are amazing! They have faced many obstacles and continue to persevere time and time again. They are curious, creative, and love to learn. This is why providing Young Adult Literature that allows them to see characters that resemble themselves can help them feel seen and heard. This is also crucial to help them build a sense of identity and self-esteem. Reading about characters with similar backgrounds can help them develop empathy for others, as well as an understanding of the experiences of people from different cultures. These books will make a difference in their learning because they will improve their language skills and give them a deeper appreciation of language and literature.

Most importantly though, seeing themselves reflected in the literature they read, they are more likely to engage with it and better understand their own experiences.
