it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I'm requesting funds for snacks, essential classroom supplies, and technology to enhance the math classroom experience. Currently our school provides students with one-to-one technology. I am looking to improve students' accessibility to the lesson materials with an Apple TV to wirelessly connect an iPad to the classroom's display on the interactive whiteboard. With these resources, students will engage in activities that help them see the world through different perspectives, such as using data from diverse communities to solve real-world problems and participating in collaborative projects that highlight various approaches to mathematics.
These tools will also enable students to work on projects that address social issues, like analyzing and proposing solutions for community challenges using mathematical models.
At our school, we teach our students to be critical thinkers, conscientious members of society, effective communicators, and life-long learners. It's well-known that math causes anxiety for many learners - in my math classroom, we focus on building collaborative thinking, which also builds compassion and empathy among their peers. We will measure success in their understanding of compassion through their ability to connect mathematical concepts with real-world implications, reflective journaling on how math can address social issues, and their engagement in collaborative problem-solving activities.
