This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Do you ever wonder when students begin to learn to read? Most students learn to read in Kindergarten, but in 1st grade we focus on really building that literacy and the love for reading. In first grade, they are expected to make the most growth in reading levels and comprehension.

We as educators need to promote the love for literacy, so that our students can use that foundation to build on to their new academic knowledge.

Learning to read and write with understanding and comprehension can help with communication, and critical thinking. Having literacy and love will open many doors for these students. However, I need to be able to provide students with the appropriate books. Students will be able to access grade level material with me reading those stories to them, and hopefully they will be able to independently read these books on their own at the end of the school year.
