My students need a laptop for student generated research and projects, collaboration, teacher feedback, and access to online learning resources.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Mannix's classroom raised $843
This project is fully funded
My Students
Computers are one of the most powerful learning tools available to students today. Unfortunately, my students have limited access to them! We currently have access to shared computer labs, but they are used by many high school teachers and are often not available. Help us obtain our own laptops!
My students are freshmen and sophomores attending a public school in Montana.
They are a diverse group including students coming from surrounding rural communities, the suburbs, and in town. Students here, have a history of being actively involved in their community .
Our school strives to provide all students with the opportunity to acquire knowledge, values, and skills that will help them be successful and contribute to a changing world. It provides opportunities to pursue interests in a wide range of clubs, sports, and trade related careers. We are blessed to be in an engaged and supportive community.
My Project
Computers are one of the most powerful learning tools available to students and teachers. They allow students to access online study materials, watch videos and animations, and use educational simulations. However, I have two specific uses in mind that I consider even more important.
Computers allow teachers to provide students with more feedback. I am planning to implement standards based grading, and computers allow me to upload comments, videos, and resources specific to each standard in a place where students can access them any time. It allows students and their teacher to see their progress over time, which according to research helps motivate students to work harder.
Also, computers allow students to ask, research, and answer their own questions. Computers can help teachers free up instructional time and guide multiple groups working on different projects. Students can identify, research, and design solutions to real world problems with access to the web.
Student motivation is probably the single most important ingredient in a classroom, and computers can help.
Students become motivated when computers allow them to investigate questions that they are interested in. Computers allow students to create! Students can generate blogs, podcasts, and webpages to share with their peers. They can have online discussions and collaborate on web-based documents. They can generate professional data and graphs. Computers change what is possible in a classroom!
