This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I treat approximately 40 preschool-aged students who are diagnosed with autism, speech and language impairments, and other co-morbid disorders. I am seeking support to ensure that my students receive the highest-quality services they deserve.

Many of my students who have speech and language delays have an incredibly difficult time communicating verbally.

These difficulties can lead to frustration and make it challenging for the student to get their wants and needs met. They also come from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, which has unfortunately made it even harder for some families to obtain the resources/services that their more affluent neighborhoods easily receive.

My Project

The inability to communicate can create frustration and increase the negative behaviors of preschoolers. The requested applications (TouchChat HD AAC with WordPower, LAMP Words for Life, Proloquo2Go, and GoTalk NOW PLUS) will help students who have significant speech and language delays communicate with their peers, teachers, and families.

These apps give students a way to participate more fully in their classroom by giving them ways to request, express their likes and dislikes, ask for a turn, and many more communicative intents!

Apps like "Proloquo2Go" and "GoTalk NOW PLUS" can serve as a tool to aid in expressive and receptive language acquisition and literacy development in preschoolers with limited verbal abilities. Students will be able to communicate using these apps on an iPad to produce phrases such as, "I want more", "My turn!", "Want to play with me?", and "I feel excited!"

The ability of our preschool students to communicate will help them create friendships, increase their independence, and give them a voice to get their needs met. Your contribution will give students a foundation to establish relationships with others and succeed in school!
