My Project
I teach an energetic and diverse group of students in an ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) classroom in a high-need urban school. My classroom includes general education students and students with IEPs who benefit from clear routines, sensory supports, and frequent feedback.
Due to staffing shortages, our classroom currently does not have a co-teacher.
This means that tools which promote student independence, organization, and engagement are more essential than ever. My students are eager to learn, but they need the right supports to help them succeed without constant adult assistance.
I am requesting 24 chair storage pockets and a set of buzzer record buttons for my students. The chair pockets will give each student a personal storage space for notebooks, folders, and supplies right behind their seat. This will prevent classroom clutter, reduce lost materials, and allow students to stay focused, especially important without an extra adult in the room.
The buzzer record buttons are small, recordable devices that allow teachers and students to record their voice for up to 30 seconds. These will be used for Turn-taking games and classroom discussions, responding to questions verbally without shouting out, and practicing oral language and speech. This tool will also allow me to give directives to students in small groups that need to work independently, while I assist other students. In addition, this will also support English Language Learners and nonverbal students
These tools will allow for more student voice, more independence, and smoother classroom routines. Without a second teacher in the room, my students must rely more on themselves, and these resources will help them do just that.
This project will promote equity, reduce classroom disruptions, and empower my students to become more self-directed, confident learners
