Empowering Girls Through Running

Help me give my students a safe, fun space to run, get to know others, and learn more about the sport of cross country!

My Project

Running is an activity that just about any student can participate in, but the benefits of being a part of a running TEAM are much more than just physical. Running clubs and cross-country teams provide an opportunity for young athletes to improve their mental health, self-confidence, and grit, and have a sense of belonging. For pre-teen and teen girls, these benefits are especially important. The purpose of this project is to create a safe and encouraging space for girls to run together, have fun, make friends, and hopefully grow to love the sport of cross-country. This project will connect students from the Olathe Northwest feeder pattern as we work to build supportive and encouraging programs for the girls in our schools.

Program Events:

-3K run with female high school athletes

-Bracelet making station

-Snacks and drinks

-Tie-dye shirt station

-Games

Open to all 4-8 grade girls in the ONW feeder pattern
