Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a mathematics educator at EA running a robotics/programming/electronics at a low-income school where access to resources is very scarce. Many of the students who are present have never been exposed to robotics or programming due to severe underfunding in schools in this area.
My goal for this project is to inspire my students to dream big, think critically, and develop skills in robotics, programming, and design.
I want them to feel empowered to pursue opportunities in STEM fields and to see themselves as future engineers, programmers, and innovators, and for them to feel that anything they set their mind to is possible. The items I’m requesting, Arduino kits, laptops, 3D printers, and filament which will make a significant difference in their learning by providing hands-on opportunities to build, code, and create. With Arduino kits, students will learn the fundamentals of electronics and programming, sparking their curiosity and problem-solving skills. Laptops will give them access to software needed for coding and designing projects. The 3D printers and filament will enable students to bring their ideas to life, fostering creativity and an understanding of modern engineering processes. These tools will allow them to work on real-world projects, preparing them for STEM careers.
My students are special because they do not let their circumstances dictate what is possible. Our school motto is "impossible is not" and I know, for them, it is very true. My students contributed to making our school the only 5-star school in our area. No matter the circumstances students make it happen!
