Remember your first day of school!! So excited to make new friends and speak to one another about the exciting things you did over the summer. Now pretend you cannot understand a word the children are saying to you. That is what my classroom is like. Filled with ESL students wanted to learn!
My students come from countries all over the world.
They are so excited to be in America and eager to learn our language. Reading and Writing is a challenge for them, but they are eager and willing to do anything to learn!!
My school is a title one school filled with children from low income families. Every teacher and educator in this school comes to work everyday filled with enthusiasm and a love of learning. We are sometimes all the kids have to succeed. From Reading to Writing, Math to Social Studies, our students try their very best and never give up. By the end of the school year, they are reading and writing at a pace that you would never believe. I always tell them it is because of yourself!!! You knew you could and you did!
My Project
Having the right paper and art supplies makes all the difference in the eyes of a child. Coloring brings pictures and stories to life. Post-its on a picture in a book helps a ESL student figure out and label an unknown word. Pencils and paper brings the stories in our imagination to life on the page and makes the words explode to the writer. From writing about Non Fiction genres such as Whales or Small Moments about a trip to the park, these office supplies will engage and help our ESL student to learn and achieve their goals.
The donations to this project will improve this classroom by differentiating the instruction of the learner.
Paper choice as well as post-its bring the paper to life and stories on the page. Being able to laminate a child's work and hanging it on the board gives a kid a feeling of empowerment as well as the positivity a lift one needs to succeed in this world. Drawing and labeling helps even the basic English Language Learner the power and agility they need to succeed.
