My Project

Every day our library is used before school and during the lunch periods as a place of relaxation and connection. For kids who find the lunchroom overwhelming it's a peaceful break from a rapid, ever-changing day. Providing them with creative outlets and opportunities to collaborate or work independently during that time lets them destress and prepare for the challenges ahead.

Coloring posters, origami paper, and gel pens; these things might seem simple, but they make a big difference to my middle schoolers.

Low-tech maker space projects like friendship bracelets create excitement about the library and help the kids feel that this is really a place for them to belong. Unfortunately, these are all supplies that get used up pretty quickly and the budget just doesn't stretch to cover everything we need to keep the room flourishing.
