Empowered Learning Starts with a Charge

Help me give my students the ability to charge their Chromebooks in my classroom during the school day. My students would need access to a charging cart and chargers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students need to have a charged Chromebook every day for school. Currently, students must rely on a patchwork of chargers, surge protectors, electrical outlets, and fully charged devices to make this happen. By having two charging stations inside my classroom and using the provided chargers, I can ensure that all students in my classes can have a fully charged Chromebook.

In short, classroom charging stations are not just a convenience—they are an essential support for modern instruction, equitable access, and effective classroom management.

Fully charged devices support continuous learning because dead or low-battery Chromebooks can disrupt instruction, especially in classrooms that rely on digital tools for lessons, assignments, and assessments. In-class charging stations ensure students stay connected and engaged. Having charging carts in the classroom can also promote equity because not all of my students have access to consistent charging opportunities at home. Charging stations help bridge this gap, particularly for my students who may face unstable home environments, power insecurity, or shared devices. Also, without charging stations, students must leave class to find an outlet or miss learning time while their device charges elsewhere. Having a station in the room allows them to remain present and focused.

Additionally, by having charging carts, I can create a system for responsible Chromebook use—such as scheduled charging times or designated charging areas—reducing the chaos of scattered cords and devices around the classroom. Furthermore, as schools increase reliance on digital tools, testing platforms, and online learning management systems (e.g., Google Classroom or Canvas), ensuring Chromebooks stay powered is essential for the success of tech-integrated instruction. Finally, with structured access to charging stations, teachers can build routines that help students take ownership of their devices, reminding them to charge during appropriate times rather than scrambling when it's too late.
