My Project
Students in my classroom from grades kindergarten to grade 5 are obsessed with graphic novels and fantasy books! When I give the choice for students to read chapter books or graphic novels, after working on their writing skills and reading informational text work, they get so excited. The images in graphic novels help ELL and special needs students better understand what they are reading and make them feel more accomplished as they read! Help continue to empower reading in my special education classroom serving 25+ students daily to make them continue to fall in love with reading!
Your gift will inspire their appetite for reading and writing with illustrated books, graphic novels for all levels of readers, stories of adventure and comics, and a few chapter books will engage my students with reading this school year!
We are in need of fresh books for our library to pair with our phonics and reading instruction and these books will help greatly! Moreover, students who are dually identified as ELL (English as a Second Language) and Special Needs need books like these to onboard their reading and understanding. Graphic novels can especially inspire them to read and to better understand what they read. Many of these books also include racially diverse characters that they can relate to and better understand; representation will help them better learn and become more inclusive people.
Thanks for empowering reading in my special needs learning support classroom for students kindergarten to grade 5!
