My Students
I work at a high school. Our demographics have shifted with the biggest growth in our Hispanic or Latino population 35.8%. The current free and reduced-price lunch population (low SES) has increased to 30%.
Our school provides students with a challenging, dynamic education that offers them the opportunity to gain the skills needed to be prepared for success in career and college.
We encourage empowerment by honoring student voice and diversity within a safe and supportive campus culture. We value and teach the importance of integrity, perseverance, and empathy. We recognize that we are part of a greater community and a strong, active partnership strengthens all.
My Project
Our high school is committed to preparing students to be college and career ready; communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills are essential to thrive in the 21st century. We launched a 1:1 Chromebook initiative for each student to have their device starting with the 2019-20 school year.
Integration instruction with technology is the key to empower the student to take ownership of their learning.
It encourages increased creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills through assignments that are not possible without technology. Nearpod helps teachers transform regular Google Slides, infographics, and videos and leverage them into interactive collaborative lessons. This tool allows teachers to create an immersive learning experience by allowing students to actively participate in every lesson and differentiate lessons to meet students at various stages of learning.
