My Project
I would like to start the school year with a unit on empathy, understanding and perseverance. Fourth grade students are going through many changes as they move from lower grades to upper grades, face pre-teen drama, develop higher level thinking, question right and wrong, and start to shape who they want to be. I have selected several books with a theme of acceptance and empathy. They have characters that face adversity and who overcome their challenges with grace.
Starting the school year with a unit on empathy, understanding and perseverance will set the tone for the whole year and help shape our classroom community into a safe space for learning and growing. The books I have selected are meaningful and have strong messages. We will use the lessons of empathy taught in the books to dive into grand conversations and deeper understanding of interpersonal relationships.
