Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Books build empathy and compassion among students by exposing readers to their own unique stories and the stories of others. It is through these lenses that they can build empathy and compassion for themselves, and others.

The books in this project focus on sensory disorders, autism, anger issues, depression, anorexia, learning disabilities, and other neurodivergent behaviors.

Some deal with ego, or bullying, and the effects of that. Other books deal with grief and loss, hearing issues, or OCD. These books will be available for students to check out from me, or for me to read aloud. While some are chapter books and others are picture books, the uses are different, but the goal is to expose students to the lives, struggles, differences of others in order to build a sense of understanding and compassion.

Reading these types of books will help kids to develop compassion for their issues and to see the world through the eyes of someone else, and to understand and connect.
