Help me give my students digital resources to use as alternatives to being on their cellphones as well as fidgets to use as a calming strategy so they can access their academics.
I am a special education resource teacher at a Minneapolis public school high school in a pullout English classroom. I work with a wide variety of students who have individualized education programs (ASD, EBD, SLD, DCD, OHD). I have students who need fidgets or things to do with their hands at any given time as an emotional regulation strategy. The items on my project list also serve as a classroom alternative to being on their phones. I want my students to learn and unfortunately, phones have become a huge distraction despite school-wide policies. I have a few fidgets and puzzles in my room and have found them to be an amazing transition away from their phones and as a means to calm emotions across the spectrum.
