Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a high poverty elementary school with close to 800 students that is located in a neighborhood that is settled in the middle of an industrial area. Aside from all of the trucks that rumble by, there is a high rate of crime in the surrounding area. All of the students receive a free lunch because of their socio-economic status. My students are faced with several challenges, both in and out of the classroom. They all are English Language Learners and many of them have learning disabilities. Despite the many challenges they face, they are always ready to learn, especially if I provide them with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

Seeing the excitement in kids' eyes when they learn something new makes teaching the best job ever.

My students need as many hands-on experiences as possible in school, to enhance and reinforce their learning.

My Project

The majority of my students are reading at a second grade level. Although this book is at 4th/5th grade level, it is an easy read jam packed with many life lessons.

This book will not only make my students cry, but it will give them a huge sense of relief by the end.

It is an entertaining adventure that will keep my students completely engaged.

I think it is important for my students to read this because they need to learn to express their emotions. This book will teach them the many different meanings of the word love. I think it will make a difference in the way they treat each other and their families.
