Over half of my students are second language learners and over eighty percent of them receive free or reduced-price lunch. As these students receive instruction in English, many of them are balancing the difficult task of learning English at the same time as learning grade level standards. In addition to this balancing act some of my students walk into the classroom counting on the meals that are served at school. Although my students walk into our school/classroom with hardships that they cannot control they have a desire to learn. With this desire they find confidence within themselves to be resilient in life.
My Project
We all get to a point where we are on emotional overload. As adults we can manage our emotions. As an educator it is important that we teacher our young students how to manage our emotions and calm down when our feelings are intense. Many of the students at our school need support and one way we can help is to buy sensory tools to fixate their minds on something tangible instead of exploding in a negative aspect. Believe it or not these items are great interventions to teach these skills to our deserving students. Any donation is very appreciative!
