Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students that I work with have unique needs as they cope with a wide variety of social, emotional, and behavioral challenges which oftentimes impede their ability to successfully navigate situations in school, home, and the community. They have issues controlling their anger, coping with their emotions and feelings, interacting appropriately with peers and adults, and expressing themselves in a socially acceptable manner. Many of my students have high levels of activity which makes it difficult for them to control their movements and to stay focused and on task. These roadblocks cause them to have frequent problems regulating their behaviors as well as progressing to their maximum potential.
My students are set up to succeed and are very proud of their accomplishments no matter how small they may be.
To see my students come to school every day with an eagerness to learn, socialize, exercise and better themselves is very rewarding. My students can accomplish whatever they want when given the structure, tools, support, and motivation.
My Project
The requested materials will be used to reward students for their behaviors that are appropriate for school, home, and the community. My students receive rewards after they have successfully demonstrated their ability to control their anger, cope with their feelings and emotions, and have interacted appropriately with peers and adults. The rewards come daily with a large incentive consisting of treats and various physical activities at the end of the week.
The snacks and sports equipment requested will be used to reward and reinforce the positive social and emotional skills students are working on to become successful members of society.
The hope is that they will continue to use their skills into adulthood.
