Emergent Readers Need a Listening Center!!

My students need a 6-person listening center and 9 audio books to use during reading workshop time.

I teach at the lowest socioeconomic school in my city.

We have the highest free and reduced lunch population. We have a high second language population.My students want to learn and succeed, but most of them have to worry about whether or not they are going to have food for dinner, or a home to go home too.

My Project

My classroom needs a listening center. The headphones and old cassette players we do have don't work. :( I want to create readers. To create readers they need to be exposed to lots and lots of reading. A listening center can give them the opportunity to listen to fluent readers reading there favorite stories. They aren't getting this exposure at home, and I would love to provide them with as much as I can in the classroom. Please, help my students get a listening center and various audio books to use during reading workshop time.

My students want to succeed...they want to learn.

My school doesn't have the funds to provide a listening center for my classroom, but my students want to be able to go to the reading corner with a book and a tape and be exposed to READING! Having a good working listening center will allow them this opportunity!!
