This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are teen mothers or moms-to-be ranging in ages from 13-20 years old. Our students are faced with the odds against them, but they are still determined to complete their secondary education and become self-sufficient. The national statistics reveal that only 40% finish high school. As teachers, we are passionate about our profession, therefore, we are also determined to help our students overcome beating those odds.

We believe in our students and their will of determination to turn challenges into opportunities by earning a high school diploma and beyond.

Sometimes attendance is difficult considering the teen moms and babies get sick. The lack of motivation can be challenging. The students want to come to school, but they are tired and sometimes feel overwhelmed. Our students are challenging the boundaries everyday!

My Project

We are a Title 1 school with a unique and diverse population striving to ensure all students are provided useful and original experiences for enrichment and career readiness opportunities despite socio-economic status.

Students are offered elective courses that furthers their education outside of the regular classroom.

This is a great opportunity for our students to learn a skill, create beautiful crafts and become self-sufficient as an entrepreneur, pursue a business certificate or college degree.

These passions include creating concept books, needlework, sewing, and pattern making for themselves and their babies.
