Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students come from different economic backgrounds. Mostly, my students are from
low-income households.
They are curious, creative, smart, and love hands-on activities. Engaging in challenging projects gives them opportunities to think outside the box and find solutions. Our school is nestled in the heart of Echo Park, an exciting city quickly- evolving neighborhood, and a community of young creative, artists, and musicians.
Calming manipulatives help children learn to regulate their emotions—and find their favorite method for calming down and comforting themselves!
Every classroom needs a place for students to go where they feel safe, can calm down, or solve problems. A couch, mindful breathing boards and storytelling boards will help them soothe themselves.
Mirrors will help the kiddos develop visual senses while in the cozy area. Story telling gloves and puppets are also important because they help children remember key narrative elements while reading a book in the calm area. A puppet rack will help keep the area tidy.
