My Students

Aloha from na keiki o Hawai'i. My class provides early intervention services to qualifying special needs children with a range of disabling conditions, ages 3 to 5 years. My school is located in a predominantly rural, low-income neighborhood with a considerable portion of the children of Hawaiian and/or Pacific Island ancestry.

My Project

My kids are creative and imaginative, and hands-on learning through art is a big part of my program. There is lots of learning going on in creative play--ample opportunities for counting, sorting, sequencing, talking about colors, positional words and... you name it ... during the course of "makin' some 'um". My students love the engagement and are eager to take their creations home to share with their families.

Over the years I've learned that it's fun to use embellishments to add some pizzazz to the children's projects.

The punch cutters with their various designs will let the young artists incorporate what otherwise would be too intricate for them to cut out. The paper crimpers are wonderful to quickly add texture to what otherwise would simply be a flat surface of paper. We will primarily use the kraft paper to cover our table to protect it while we are "art-ing". I'm also pretty sure that the paper will come in handy for future creations as well.
