Embarking On An Agricultural Education Journey

Help me give my students a creative avenue to explore agricultural education by making lessons come to live with hands-on materials.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Horton's classroom raised $801

My Project

P. Public Schools brought Agricultural Education back to the 8th-12th grade students this year for the first time since 1990. This exciting addition is starting from scratch and comes with a variety of needs, as one might expect. Items in this list will serve the 136 students that I teach as I strive to educate them about the world of agriculture.

Every day thousands of students embark on yet another step in their educational journey.

It is easy for things to become mundane and stagnant. I believe in mixed methods and varied teaching styles. I love to see the face of a student when they realize it is a hands-on project day. In no way am I an artist myself, but I find myself using art in my classroom regularly. While some might suggest that art and agriculture are quite different, I would suggest looking at the world around you from the perspective of an artist. When you do, I believe you will see a rich tapestry in the grains, livestock, and laborious tasks that feed and clothe our world.

While students have certainly felt the impact of COVID-19, like the rest of us, they are eager and ready to fully immerse themselves into learning! I see that on their faces, and hear it in their classroom discussion. Using hands-on teaching items, like those on my list, will allow me to captivate their attention as we embark on this journey in agricultural education.
