My students need an Elmo document camera to take individual writing assignments and share them as a class lesson; allowing for deeper engagement and more in-depth discussion.
With over 620 students from kindergarten to sixth grade, our school is a busy building. Our daily mission is to "Work Hard, Dream Big!" My 105 fifth graders are such "dreamers." Their goals and dreams are limited only by their own imaginations.
My students are creative problem solvers, critical thinkers, and will someday become globally competitive citizens.
Despite the diverse backgrounds they come from, in my classroom, they connect, engage, discuss, and learn. They share their thinking, dreams, likes and dislikes without the worry of ridicule. They love to talk about life and learning.
My kids love learning new things. They get excited when they've worked hard and it pays off. They want to be better readers, writers and speakers.
My Project
With the Elmo Document Camera our fifth graders' work will come to life. The kids will use it to teach their own lessons, share their own writing, and help each other learn how to closely read text.
They will use this document camera as a way to show how they "mark-up the text" as they read.
They will share how they annotate and write in the margins. They can also show questions they might have as they read. Further, as we study general academic vocabulary, the students draw pictures to help them remember word meanings. The document camera can be used to showcase these pictures which will help other children to visualize and remember vocabulary meaning.
The Elmo Document Camera will be a great tool when preparing for state assessment. Text Dependent Analysis (TDA) questions ask questions that force students to synthesize answers based on specific evidence within a reading passage and demonstrate their ability to interpret the meaning behind that evidence. This can be challenging for many fifth graders. The document camera will permit the students to share their TDA writing while explaining their thinking behind their answers. The use of a document camera will promote engagement and spark success for all.
