Elmo & my students need your help bringing technology into our classroom. =) I'm a National Board Certified AYA Science Teacher (NBCT) who is currently teaching & mentoring 10-12th graders in AP & honors chemistry at a high poverty, urban high school.
A fair amount of instructional time is lost each day as my students re-write their homework answers and calculations on the classroom dry-erase board so everyone else can self-assess their own homework. In addition, due to very large class sizes, it's difficult for all of my students to clearly observe the chemistry demonstrations, as well as their classmates' data & graphs clearly.
By having access to an ELMO document camera, we would reclaim a lot of precious instructional time each day as we review our previous night's homework, observe chemistry demos, analyze data & results from various inquiry investigations - among other things - more clearly and efficiently. This technology will not only help my students prepare for college by strengthening their chemistry & math skills (which is a major component of fields such as medicine, pharmacy, chemical engineering, etc.), but it will also improve their problem solving & basic and integrated process skills during all forms of inquiry investigations.
With your generous support, we can reclaim precious instructional time and use it to better serve all of my students. This is especially important to my two classes of AP chemistry students. Because our school starts after Labor Day, we lose 2-3 weeks of instructional time compared to many other schools who start classes during August as we all diligently prepare for the mid-May AP chemistry exam each year. Thank you very much for your generosity in these very trying times. =)
