This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from the inner city and our school is like a second home them. For many, school is a safe haven from the issues they encounter at home or in their neighborhoods. Unfortunately, this also means that sometimes they are not entitled to the same resources and students who are in other school communities. My school is very enthusiastic about providing a safe, loving community to students in order to foster a positive place for learning to happen.
My Project
The document camera will allow my students to showcase their work to the class. Often in math, technology makes it difficult or tedious to show special characters and symbols but a document camera allows that to happen in "real time." We can compare student work instantly without spending time on searching the computer for special characters to type in. So many different elements go into a math task: writing, showing work, graphs, tables, pictures – the strategies are endless! The document camera allows the class to be exposed to all strategies for the same task right after each other. It will save time that can be spent on necessary remediation.
Donating to this project will improve my classroom immensely!
My students are already working on online portfolios through Google classroom and upgrading our technology will only enhance their learning experience. They will be able to work on their communication skills by showcasing their work to each other and it will also help them offer actionable feedback as they compare strategies and solutions. My students will be able to have experience with even more competitive technology.
